Deep penetrating red light therapy is actually a non invasive, cost-effective, alternative treatment to all sorts of skin problems, skin appearance and is very effective as a natural pain reliever. But is red light therapy safe and what are the side effects?

Red light easily penetrates the skin, boosts circulation and bringing more blood and nutrients to the area. It also stimulates vital collagen and elastin production. Collagen helps plump the skin, while elastin firms the skin.

The red light is energizing and repairing damaged cells, stimulating collagen and elastin and giving the skin back its youthful look.

What is Red Light Therapy and How Does it Work?

Developed by NASA to heal wounds, red light therapy was found to promote and speed up skin regeneration.

This is what makes red light therapy so effective in removing scars and general skin rejuvenating.

Red light is able to penetrate the skin to a depth of 8 – 10mm encouraging the cells to naturally stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. The anti-aging effect is produced by increased collagen adding volume to the skin and extra elastin firming and toning the skin.

Red light penetrates to the bottom of the dermis down to the fatty layer; which also makes it beneficial as a natural anti-inflammatory.

Laboratory studies have shown that skin cells grow 150 – 200 percent faster when exposed to certain light wavelengths, and research studies have shown red light penetrates the epidermal layer of the skin and begins to heat the dermis.

With the rise in temperature, new collagen and elastin is naturally produced by our body, delivers powerful therapeutic benefits to living tissue.

The result? Increasing your own production of collagen which in turn smoothes and reduces wrinkles and creates more youthful looking skin.

Is Red Light Therapy Safe for The Eyes?

According to the FDA, red light at 633nm has a “non-significant risk” status and is completely safe for the eyes.

Can Red Light Therapy Damage Your Skin?

Too much sunlight can affect the skin due to the emission of broad spectrum ultraviolet energy through the atmosphere. Red Light treatment bed lamps utilize the visible spectra of light at 633nm (red), but contain no UVA or UVB rays.

What’s the Difference Between Red Light Therapy and Laser Treatments?

Red light therapy does not cut, burn or break the skin as with laser treatments. It produces no vaporization or burning of the tissue, and therefore no inflammation or erythema.

Does Red Light Therapy Work for ALL Skin Types?

The Collagen Red Light Therapy is safe and effective for all skin types and colors. The main prerequisite is that skin be clean for effective light transmission.

Are There Any Short Term Side Effects?

There are some testimonials of skin redness after treatments. This side effect is usually caused by improper use of red light therapy, especially over-use.

Any side effect can be avoided by following the manufacturer’s instructions and not being tempted to speed up results by over-use.

How to Choose a Red Light Therapy Home Device

There are many red light therapy home devices, and it can be quite over whelming to choose the right device for you.

You should know that some red light therapy devices are FDA approved, yet some are not.

This is a simple (yet complete) guide to choosing a led light therapy home device. It will help you find out the best type of device for you, based on your specific needs, and will give you examples of FDA-approved red light therapy devices.

The DPL Light therapy system is unquestionably one of the most discussed, popular and advertised red light therapy devices. This relatively large red and infrared light therapy device is not shy when it comes to price either – It’s even more expensive than the high priced Baby Quasar.

Does the DPL light therapy work? Who can really benefit from it, and is it worth the price?

DPL Light Therapy VS. Other Red Light Therapy Home Devices

The major difference between DPL light therapy and other popular red light therapy devices is probably the ease-of-use and the time-saving element.

The DPL system is not a hand held device, like Baby Quasar, Lightstim or Omnilux.

The DPL is made of 2 relatively large panels emitting red and infrared wavelengths. You can set up on any table and just relax while the deep penetrating red light works to rejuvenate and heal your skin, or relieve your muscle, nerve and joint pain.

Hand held devices, on the other hand, require that you hold them in your hand and move them from one treatment area to the other until you finish.

The DPL light therapy covers a much larger treatment area, so the treatment time is significantly shorter (15-17 minutes once a day, vs. 30 minutes a day for the Baby Quasar, for example).

Plus, you can always remove the stand and wrap the panels around any part of your body. You can lie on it if you have back acne scars, or wrap it around your legs for relief from any type of pain.

For most of us these factors are very important when choosing a red light therapy home device.

But More Importantly, Does the DPL light therapy WORK?

As with any other health treatment, for some it’s the real deal and a life saver, and for others – Not so much.

But after reading hundreds of reviews, I would say that the average rating for the DPL light therapy is 4+ stars. The price for the DPL hasn’t dropped at all in the last two years, which is another sign of its popularity and stable user-satisfaction.

Dozens of women, who found no success with skin care creams and treatments, were delighted to see improvements in fine lines and wrinkles, reduced brown spots, an even-toned glowing skin and diminished redness, blemishes and scars.

Many users were thrilled with the infrared light treatment as a drug-free and effective pain relief method. Many reported canceling surgeries in the joints or back.

Red and infrared light therapy has been scientifically proven to be effective, so the only question is whether the DPL light therapy system worth the price?

DPL Light Therapy Pros and Cons

First, it’s important to understand that the DPL light therapy has 2 kinds of wavelengths:

1. Visible red light therapy (660 nm wavelength) – Penetrated the tissues to a depth of about 8-10 nm, this making it great for treating problems closer to the skin, such as wounds, cuts, scars, infection, collagen production and skin rejuvenation

2. Invisible infrared light therapy (880 nm wavelength) – Penetrates to a depth of about 30-40 nm, making it beneficial for bones, joints, nerves and deep muscle problems.

DPL Cons

1. It can take at least 3 weeks before you will notice the tighter pores, reduced wrinkles, reduced hyperpigmentation and the improved skin tone. If you’re going to give up after a week, don’t bother reaching for your wallet.

2. To get the best out the DPL system you’ll have to sit quite close to the LEDs, so reading a book or crafting is not really possible.

3. Make sure that you “lock” the two panels in place in their holders. (By gently pushing down on the panel and making sure it “clicks” in place.) Even when locked in place they can slide off if they’re jarred, so treat the device with care.

4. Over treatment can dry your skin, so never over-do it.

DPL Pros

1. Full body coverage – You can use the DPL for your face and your entire body, without using your hands at all. By the way, you can always connect the two panels with a strap and place it right on your face while lying down. The timer will shut it off after 17 minutes.

2. Large Treatment Area – As explained above, the 2 large panels cover a large treatment area thus making treatment time dramatically shorter. The DPL device is the largest of the at-home treatments and it is necessary for complete coverage of the face and neck. Otherwise, you’ll spend a ton of time each day moving the smaller ones around to reach the whole face.

3. Some users have found that using the DPL cleared their sinuses.

4. The light will get warm after 7 minutes so be warned (but not to the extent that it will burn the skin), so having a timer built in is a good feature.

5. It has a very high success rate when used for pain relief. In fact, an average review for the DPL pain relief system goes like this:

“I love this product. Two and a half years after a nasty car accident all kinds of test and doctor appointments I was still suffering from debilitating chest pains. I tried these lights; BAM- pain was gone. Also used these lights on my lower back when the pain was making it difficult to walk and my foot was going numb. Again BAM pain was gone. I thank the Lord for this invention and share my story with anyone suffering from pain.” (Source: Amazon user reviews).

Where to Buy the DPL Light Therapy

I really recommend that you get your DPL on Amazon, if only for their excellent reliability, customer service and the no-question return policy they have for the DPL.

This is the page for the DPL system on Amazon.

Oops, almost forgot…So, does the DPL light therapy live up to the hype? In my book the answer is…yes.

For those of us who turn into a moody-depressed-anti-social pumpkin from Sept – April, finding the best light therapy lamp is literally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

It may take a few days or a whole week before you feel the effect, but when it starts working you’ll see how your mood is elevated, how alert and active you’ll become again and how the constant fatigue will disappear.

But how to find the best light therapy lamp and choose from the many lamps out there?

First, Important Features to Look For:

1. The light lamp should emit 10,000 lux. Any less than that and you’ll have to spend more time (more than 20-30 minutes a day) in front of it.

2. The light therapy lamp should emit full spectrum bright light. This is the type of light that’s most similar to natural sunlight.

3. The SAD lamp should filter out the possibly harmful UV rays.

4. The manufacturer’s reputation and experience is important, since bright light therapy lamps are not checked by the FDA.

5. Consider where and how you will want to sit in front of your lamp. Do you want to use it while you’re working on your computer? Do you want to sit on your couch and read a book? This will determine the size and structure of your lamp.

Best Light Therapy Lamps – Uplift Technologies VS Day Light Sky

These 2 light therapy lamps are the most popular SAD lamps today, and both of them have all the important features listed above. To help you choose, here’s a comparison between The Uplift Technologies SAD lamp and the Day Light Sky SAD lamp:

1. Light Intensity – Both lamps emit 10000 lux for SAD treatment, and both of them has a lower intensity option, to use for reading, studying, crafts and what ever you need good lighting for.

2. Treatment Time – Both lamps require 20-30 minutes of use per day, in the morning.

3. Size – The Uplift Technologies is 4 x 21 x 16 inches; 5 pounds. The Day Light Sky is 13.8 x 10.5 x 27.2 inches; 8.2 pounds.

4. Structure and Stability – Both lamps are solidly built and easy to set up, but the legs of the Uplift Technology are a little less stable than the sturdy base of the Day Light Sky.

They stay in place by tightening a twist knob which may become looser every day. If you forget to fix it the lamp can fall over (on your head or the floor).

But, there’s a hole in the back of it so you can hang it on the wall.

On the other hand, The Day Light Sky‘s base has a weighted area that makes it very stable.

Also, The Day Light Sky is surprisingly adjustable. The head arm can lock into different angles, the buttons are a practical size and even arthritic hands can use this one with no problems.

5. Quality – Both lamps have no buzzing sounds, don’t flicker and are quite easy on the eyes.

6. Smell – Both lamps heat up and about 15 minutes later make a bit of a baking plastic smell. But, it turns out that with the Day Light Sky lamp, the smell will disappear if you remove all the little rubber pieces used to secure the light bulbs during shipping. It comes with a little screwdriver, and you have to take off the lens (cover) to get the packing materials out of there. No smell otherwise.

7. Task light – Both lamps’ light intensity can be reduced and used as wonderful task lights to reduce the strain on your eyes (a crafter’s delight!). You simply see better with these lamps and you can use them to read, study, and craft and even as a great makeup light. You can easily see those clogged pores and little hairs to tweeze.

8. Reputation – The Day Light Sky is recommended by the Center of Environmental Therapeutics.

9. Warranty – The Day Light Sky has a 5 year warranty. The Uplift lamp has a 2 year warranty.

And the Winner Is…

All in all, it seems quite clear that the Day-light Sky SAD Lamp is a bit superior to the Uplift Technologies lamp. Though both lamps will get you the same results when it comes to SAD and sleep-cycle treatment, The Day Light Sky structure, quality and features seem superior to those of Uplift Technologies.

The Day Light Sky is better built and thus more stable, it has no burnt-plastic smell (if you take out the rubber protection stuff), it offers more warranty and it’s recommended by the CET. Surprisingly, it only costs about 20$ more than the Uplift Technologies lamp (on Amazon).

Finding the Best Price

The best price for both of these best light therapy lamps is almost always found on Amazon. They come with free shipping and Amazon usually offers great deals on them. Right now, for example, the Uplift Technologies is 140.73$, (Down from 199.99$) and the Day Light Sky is 159.10$ (Down from 219.99$).

We here at Light Therapy Reviews are as always happy to share yet another scientific proof that blue light therapy really works!

In a new study conducted by Vancouver General Hospital says a pilot project using blue light therapy to kill harmful bacteria has reduced post-surgical infections by almost 40 percent (!!).

Bacteria from hotspots all over our body, especially the nose, can migrate simply by touch and cause an infection when patients are most vulnerable – After surgery.

The hospital used “Nasal photodisinfection”, which involves applying a blue dye to the inside of a patient’s nose before surgery. The dye attaches itself to bacteria and when a light is shone inside, potentially “bad” bacteria are destroyed.

Blue Light Therapy Can Save Lives

Post surgery infections are quite common. It’s a real tragedy to go through surgery (and a successful one too…) only to die from hospital-acquired infections. Blue light therapy was able to reduce almost a half of the predicted post-surgery infections and thus save lives.

Blue Light Therapy for Acne

This study proves yet again the amazing benefits of blue light therapy in acne treatment. Earlier research has found that blue light can destroy up to 80 percent of P.acne (acne causing bacteria) – Without dangerous medication and chemical-laden lotions.

Blue light therapy home devices allow you to treat your acne at home, without wasting time (and a big bunch of money) for blue light therapy sessions in clinics.

The Sirius Aurora light therapy device is probably the cheapest light therapy system around (Right now it’s about 97$ on Amazon), especially if you consider that it includes 3 interchangeable treatment panels – Red light for anti-aging, blue light for acne and green light for hyperpigmentation.

For example, if you’d like to have all three wavelengths (red, blue and green) from the popular Baby Quasar company, you’d have to buy two different devices and fork over about 500$ (for the Baby Quasar Power Pack).

That’s a HUGE price difference.

This type of price difference can make anyone suspicious. Why is it so much cheaper? What does the Baby Quasar (or the Lightstim for that matter) have that Sirius Aurora doesn’t? Will it even work? The answers are all here in this Sirius Aurora Review.

Sirius Aurora

Sirius Aurora – What You Get

Modular design

Timer and automatic shut down when treatment time is up.

Large treatment surface

660 nm & 880 nm red and infrared treatment panel

415 nm blue treatment panel

Sirius Aurora Advantages

Here’s the most important advantage – The treatment time. The surface of the Aurora treatment panels is 4.71 square inches (while the Baby Quasar’s is 3.14 square inches, for example). This means a more efficient treatment time, because it will simply require less treatment per each area.

It’s also very light weight, portable and easy to use.

It’s the only device that has 3 wavelengths – Red (&infrared), blue and green. Most devices combine (at best) red light with blue light.

Price – If anyone is considering a led light therapy device but is balking at the price of the Baby Quasar, we would definitely recommend trying out the Sirius Aurora.

Here’s a video by Marta from the Truth in Aging website, comparing the Sirius Aurora and the Baby Quasar Red:

Sirius Aurora Disadvantages

We’ve only found one disadvantage in Sirius’s device, but it may be a deal breaker for you. It’s their customer service. We have stumbled upon a few complaints on the web. Most claimed that they simply can’t be reached, which is pretty important if you want to return the device and get a refund.

But this problem can be solved by simply ordering the product from Amazon, which handles the shipping and the money back guarantee (and offer a better price than the one offered by the company’s official website – You can check it out Right Here).

How to Use Sirius Aurora

Always use on a clear bare face. We would recommend using a serum (This is an excellent one) after cleaning your face, though it’s not mentioned in the instructions.

Use the pulsating mode first. Divide your face to 3 sections and guide the panel in circular motion over your face for 3 minutes per section. The timer will beep when you have to start the next section.

Divide your face to 5 sections and use the continuous mode for 3 minutes per section. The timer will go off when you have to move on.

Use 3-4 times a week for the first 2 months, than you can go down to 2-3 times a week. Always allow 24 hours in between treatments to allow the skin to regenerate.

To your health and happiness,

Meital

P.S
